UNUSA's CEHP Team Wins 1st Runner-Up at INOVBOYO 2025 in the Agribusiness and Renewable Energy Category

Surabaya, December 17, 2025. The Center for Environmental Health of Pesantren (CEHP) team of Universitas Nahdlatul Ulama Surabaya (UNUSA) successfully achieved brilliant achievements in the Inovasi Surabaya (INOVBOYO) 2025 event. Led by Achmad Syafiuddin as team leader, with Jazuly Nabil and Mimin Indriani as members, this team qualified for the final round in the Agribusiness and Renewable Energy category. Their innovation entitled "Pengolahan Limbah Cair Rumah Tangga" successfully won the title of 1st Runner-Up, marking recognition for their real contribution in sustainable waste management at the city level.

This innovation embraces a revolutionary concept: sewage water, typically considered hazardous waste, can be processed into clean, ready-to-use water for sanitation purposes. The treatment process utilizes environmentally friendly filtration technology, producing high-quality, safe water without creating secondary pollution. This concept not only addresses the challenge of household wastewater in urban areas but also supports the principles of a circular economy by converting waste into a valuable resource.

This innovation is specifically designed for local communities, such as the youth organization in Surabaya. The treated water can be used to irrigate hydroponic plants, increasing urban agricultural productivity without relying on conventional clean water sources. Furthermore, the water is also ideal for small-scale motorcycle washing businesses, opening up economic opportunities for village youth and youth organizations while reducing the environmental burden of domestic waste that often pollutes rivers and city drainage channels.

The semifinal round of INOVBOYO 2025 was held at the Surabaya City Youth Hall, where the CEHP UNUSA team competed closely with dozens of participants from various institutions. Assessment was based on the originality of the idea, technical feasibility, socio-economic impact, and scalability potential. This achievement demonstrates CEHP UNUSA's commitment to integrating academic research with community-based solutions, aligning with the team's experience in developing previous water filtration systems.

This 1st Runner-Up victory opens the door to broader collaboration with the Surabaya city government. Achmad Syafiuddin, the team leader, stated that this innovation is ready to be implemented in Surabaya communities to support sustainable sanitation programs. INOVBOYO 2025's achievement further strengthens CEHP UNUSA's position as a leading center for environmental innovation.
