CEHP has initiative to improve awareness and knowledge about clean water for santri
Monitoring water quality is very crucial to make sure that water used for daily activities is safe to use. Achmad Syafiuddin, the head of center for environmental health of pesantren (CEHP) with his team conducted community services at Pondok Pesantren Addurriyah, Pamekasan, Madura. Pondok Pesantren Addurriyah is an Islamic boarding school located in Bangkes Village, Pamekasan Regency, Madura. It is about 130 km from Universitas Nahdlatul Ulama Surabaya or it can be achieved by around 3 hours via driving a car.
In 2021, CEHP has installed a simple low-cost water treatment for treating groundwater for non-potable uses for santri. Awareness and knowledge about clean water are still low at the pondok pesantren. In lining with this necessity, this year, CEHP has initiative to improve their awareness and knowledge by mentoring how to monitor raw and treated water in the pondok pesantren.
The activity was started by sharing knowledge to the santri about how important of clean water to their health. After the discussion, Achmad Syafiuddin and his team conducted monitoring water quality of raw and treated water. The santri was also trained how to do monitoring and do comparison it with the National water quality standard. Santri was exciting to do the activities step by step. Outcomes from the community services are improving their awareness and knowledge about clean water and sanitation.
