Water Quality Survey at Pesantren An-Nawawi Tanara Serang Banten: Finding Solutions for Clean Drinking Water

Serang, Banten - In an effort to improve the quality of life and health of students, a team from the Center of Environmental Health of Pesantren (CEHP) of Universitas Nahdlatul Ulama Surabaya (UNUSA) conducted a location and water quality survey at Pondok Pesntren An-Nawawi Tanara, Serang, Banten. The pesantren, which is under the auspices of Vice President Ma'ruf Amin, has a need to manage water so that it is suitable for consumption as drinking water.

The survey results show that the water at all points of the pesantren location is brackish with Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) reaching 2500 mg/L. This high TDS level makes the water unfit for direct drinking, so it requires special treatment to make it safe and healthy for the students. Ustaz Yayan, who is in charge of the pesantren, stated that the management of water into drinking water was a request from the pesantren. “We hope that with the help of water filter equipment from UNUSA, the need for clean and healthy drinking water can be fulfilled immediately,” said Ustaz Yayan.

At this early stage, the survey conducted by the UNUSA team is still in the data collection and analysis stage. There is no installation of water filters yet, but this survey is an important first step to determine the right solution for water treatment in pesantren.
Pesantren An-Nawawi Tanara hopes that this collaboration will not only improve the quality of life of the students, but also become an example for other pesantren in managing water resources properly.
