Guest Lecture with Dr. Rajeev Pratap Singh from Banaras Hindu University, India
Surabaya, November 6, 2024 - Universitas Nahdlatul Ulama Surabaya (UNUSA) through the Center for Environmental Health of Pesantren (CEHP) held a guest lecture entitled “Giving Waste a Second Chance: Opportunities and Threats” by presenting Dr. Rajeev Pratap Singh, an environmental expert from the Institute of Environment and Sustainable Development, Banaras Hindu University, India. The event was held in the meeting room Lembaga Penelitian dan Pengabdian Kepada Masarakat (LPPM) and attended by students of the UNUSA Environmental Health study program.
In his remarks, the UNUSA public health lecturer said that this activity aimed to broaden students' knowledge about the importance of sustainable waste management, especially in the context of the pesantren environment. Dr. Rajeev Pratap Singh, in his presentation, reviewed various innovative approaches in waste treatment that can have a positive impact on the environment. He explained some of the latest methods and technologies used in various countries, especially in Indonesia, to recycle and utilize waste efficiently.
The lecture session ended with an interactive discussion, where students actively asked about effective and applicable waste management practices, and how they can be applied in the environment. Dr. Rajeev also provided insights on global challenges in waste management and the role of youth in dealing with them.
This activity was enthusiastically welcomed by the participants who claimed to get a lot of inspiration and new insights. One of the Environmental Health students, Alfiyah Indah Yanti stated, “This guest lecture opened our eyes about the importance of the role of the younger generation in sustainable environmental management, regarding the circular economy”.
Through this activity, UNUSA continues to show its support in supporting sustainable environmental education and preparing students to be more sensitive to global environmental issues.
