Ministry of Social Affairs Collaborates with CEHP UNUSA to Empower Bogor Community through Waste Management and Clean Water Technology
February 8, 2024 - Pagelaran Village, Ciomas Subdistrict, Bogor Regency, West Java, is the location for the application of appropriate technology developed by the Center for Environmental Health of Pesantren (CEHP) of Universitas Nahdlatul Ulama Surabaya (UNUSA) which will be utilized by the Ministry of Social Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia (Kemensos RI). This technology is expected to overcome waste problems and provide clean water as part of local community empowerment efforts.
Technologies developed by CEHP UNUSA, such as the UNU-Water water filtration system, have proven effective in providing access to clean water and educating communities on sustainable water resource management. The holistic approach includes training and mentoring communities in water resource maintenance and waste management, thus not only providing technical solutions but also empowering the community as a whole.
The Ministry of Social Affairs, through the slum rehabilitation program in Pagelaran Village, also conducted mass community service to clean the river and the surrounding environment to create healthier and cleaner conditions. Minister of Social Affairs Saifullah Yusuf emphasized the importance of keeping the environment and water resources clean for the sustainability of life for future generations. This activity involved various elements of society, including social workers, local government, and local residents, with full support from the Ministry of Social Affairs.
In the activity, a member of the Regional Representative Council (DPD) RI from West Java, Mr. Alfiansyah Komeng, was also present, who gave full support to community service and community empowerment efforts. Komeng emphasized the importance of gotong royong culture as an ancestral heritage that must be preserved to maintain cleanliness and quality of life. He invited the community to not only depend on the government, but also actively take the initiative to protect the environment independently.
The presence of appropriate technology from CEHP UNUSA integrated with the environmental rehabilitation program by the Ministry of Social Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia in Pagelaran Village is expected to be a model of sustainable community empowerment. The synergy between technological innovation, government support, and active community participation is believed to be able to effectively overcome waste and clean water problems and improve the quality of life of Pagelaran Village residents and their surroundings.
