Head of CEHP UNUSA Carries Out International Service in Malaysia, Focusing on Improving the Health and Hygiene of Pondok Pesantren Students

From August 7 to 9, 2025, the Head of the Research and Community Service Institute and Chair of the Center for Environmental Health of Pesantren (CEHP) at Nahdlatul Ulama University Surabaya (UNUSA) conducted an international community service activity at the An-Nahdlo Islamic Boarding School in Selangor, Malaysia. The activity aimed to raise awareness and understanding among the students regarding the importance of clean and healthy living habits, which are key factors in maintaining health, particularly in preventing skin diseases that often disrupt their learning activities.

During the three-day event, a number of training sessions were provided to the students, including proper hand washing techniques, effective waste management, and water quality measurement in the boarding school environment. The training was designed not only as a theoretical presentation but also included demonstrations and hands-on practice so that the students could understand and apply the knowledge they had gained optimally.

Through this training method, students are equipped with vital knowledge to live clean and healthy lives in the right way. In addition, the direct involvement of students in the water quality measurement process provided them with useful practical experience in determining which water sources are suitable for daily use, enabling them to be more independent in maintaining the cleanliness and health of the boarding school environment. The activity also emphasized the importance of sorting waste according to type before disposal, so that waste management is more efficient and does not pollute the environment.

Through this community service program, it is hoped that the awareness of clean and healthy living among the students at the Pondok Pesantren An-Nahdlo will increase significantly, so that their health quality is maintained and the learning process becomes more optimal. This activity is also an important step in strengthening cross-border cooperation in the field of education and environmental health development.
