UNUSA Inaugurates UNUSA-Water Household Liquid Waste Management System in Kendangsari, Supports Community-Based Total Sanitation in Surabaya
On Monday, August 25, 2025, Nahdlatul Ulama University Surabaya (UNUSA) officially inaugurated the UNUSA-Water household wastewater management system in Kampung Ijo, RW 05 Kendangsari neighborhood, Tenggilis Mejoyo District, Surabaya. The inauguration was marked by a symbolic handover of the assistance by UNUSA Rector Prof. Dr. Ir. Achmad Jazidie, M.Eng, to representatives of RW 05 Kendangsari residents, witnessed by Surabaya Deputy Mayor Ir. H. Armuji, M.H.
This assistance is part of the social and environmental responsibility program run by UNUSA as a tangible contribution to improving the quality of sanitation and public health in Surabaya. The UNUSA-Water system that is implemented is capable of treating household wastewater into water that is suitable for reuse for environmental sanitation purposes, such as watering gardens or cleaning areas around the house, thereby reducing pollution and excessive use of clean water.
The Deputy Mayor of Surabaya, Ir. H. Armuji, M.H., expressed his high appreciation for the innovation and effectiveness of the UNUSA-Water installation system. He hopes that this technology can be implemented more widely in various areas of the city of Surabaya so that more residents can benefit from it. The implementation of this liquid waste management system is also considered to be in line with the city government's program to realize community-based total sanitation (STBM), which aims to improve environmental health and sustainability.
Through cooperation and support from various parties, UNUSA-Water is expected to become an innovative solution in environmentally friendly domestic wastewater management and support wiser water resource management. The success of this program in Kendangsari is expected to serve as an example that can be replicated in other communities to encourage Surabaya to become a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable city.
